DREXEL COMMUTERS

The Drexel Commuters are exactly what they sound like—students that commute to Drexel. Their name was chosen by Kara Sharkey, the Drexel staff member who organized the team. This is the first year a commuter team was put together. They are our Champion Team of the Week because they all had a great time playing the game. They are hoping that the “commuter” team stays established, with many returning members, for years to come.

Because they are a first year team, they don’t have a lot of rituals or traditions yet, unless you call being terrified every week that one of their girls wouldn't show up and they'd have to forfeit a “tradition”! They say that they aren’t the most athletic team but they make up for that by being very organized. They practice more and play smarter. And the Drexel Commuters feel that they are here to stay. They went from not even knowing each other at their first practice to a group that plans on staying in contact with each other and organizing practices and games during the off-season. Good Job, Kara!

CYTOKINE STORM

Who knew that following flag football could introduce one to so many new things? For example, Cytokine Storm is an impressive inflammatory process in the body and apparently, they are also an impressive team on the football field! This team is made up of all medical students who came together during their first year of medical school. They are our Champion Team of the Week because they play with passion and respect for the game and their opponents. And a large part of that passion for the game stems from their desire…to delay studying by concentrating on football!

Cytokine Storm are not wallflowers on the sidelines. They have an assortment of team rituals…they wear eye-black, sing Top 40 songs, and celebrate with good old-fashioned body bumps. To keep them at the top of their game, they eat superantigens (cookies in layman’s terms) during their games. And now they can store those cookies in their Champion hoodie pockets!
